Johann Strauss & the programme

The evening centres on the music of Johann Strauss the Younger — the composer who made the Viennese waltz famous around the world. The programme follows his work throughout the night: from the Blue Danube Waltz and rousing polkas to the Radetzky March, performed by the Johann Strauss Philharmonic in full formation.

Between the musical pieces, ballet, soprano singing, a violin solo and humorous show interludes take turns, while the four courses of the menu are served alongside. The result is an evening that combines concert, theatre and dinner without one interrupting the other.

Around 20 artists appear on stage in total. A presenter guides you through the programme in English, tells the stories behind the pieces and repeatedly draws the audience in.

Johann Strauss Son (1825-1899)

Johann Strauss Son, born on 25 October 1825 in Vienna, achieved world fame as an outstanding Austrian composer and conductor of the 19th century. As the son of the equally renowned composer Johann Strauss the Elder, he followed in his father's footsteps and established his reputation as the \"Waltz King\".

His compositions, including the iconic \"Danube Waltz\" and the rousing \"Radetzky March\", quickly found favor and made him an important representative of the Viennese musical tradition. Strauss Sohn was not only a master of the waltz, but also a pioneer of operetta. Works such as \"Die Fledermaus\" and \"Der Zigeunerbaron\" bear witness to his versatility and unique musical style. His work shaped the musical landscape of his time and continues to influence generations of composers to this day. Johann Strauss Son died in Vienna on 3 June 1899.

However, his legacy lives on, not only in the timeless melodies he created, but also in his unforgettable role as a key figure in Viennese classical music.

The courses of our Austrian gourmet menus alternate with the show performances throughout the evening to provide the perfect mix of entertainment and culinary delights.
